Digital Photography
Why do we shoot digitally?
It saves you money.
We have much lower costs shooting digitally. We do not have to buy film or get prints made to see the images. Additionally, our lab, Pictage uses an online ordering system to make prints and charges us less for them.
You get better pictures!
We generally shoot about 750 images in a typical wedding day. That is roughly double the amount that the average film photographer shoots for a wedding. Additionally, the 300 images that are shot by a film photographer include blinks, and a whole variety of things that make a photograph unflattering. Shooting digitally means that we can edit out those unflattering images and thus provide you with a much better wedding book. Finally we are able to view each image immediately after taking it, allowing us to know that we have each shot.
Excellent Quality
We have shot film for many years, and would not have made the switch to digital unless we were completely convinced that the quality of the product we are able to deliver would remain exceptional. Typical medium format film can produce a quality print up to 24X30. The digital system we use can do the same. Digital photographs actually have an advantage over film in that their is no grain. Thus the digital prints often look better than prints made from film.
A question we are frequently asked is "I have seen photos from digital cameras that look very poor or pixelated" (often on the web). There is a vast difference between consumer grade cameras and professional cameras. This is especially true with digital cameras. Consumer based cameras generally are handicapped by having poor quality lenses, and flashes that are underpowered. The image processing chip is often too small to capture a truly high quality image. Finally, most consumer grade digital cameras lack tonal range resulting in loss of detail.
Permanence
One of the most frequent questions we get is how long will the prints last? Our digital photos are printed on the exact same paper as film photos. Thus you will have the exact same life expectancy from prints made with a digital camera, as compared to prints made with a film camera. (They are NOT inkjet prints). Additionally, film will deteriorate over time. Digital images which are properly archived will last virtually forever.

A slideshow at your reception
Accent Photography is now able to show a slideshow of selected images taken during the day at your reception! We download images to a laptop throughout the day to insure the safety of your wedding photos. When we get to the reception we select a number of our favorites from the day and can provide you and your guests a brief glimpse of the beauty of the day.
Additional services that are now FREE!
Any digital image can be made into black and white or sepia tone after the wedding is completed. We now can use our creative touch to choose which images we would like to be in black and white after we view them. You can also request that any image be made black and white or sepia tone with no additional costs.
Accent Photography can also do minor retouching of images to make you look great. Even minor retouching of film can cost many dollars. Now we are able to do so easily, thus we can provide it with no additional charge.
Digital is better for the environment
Traditional film processing is terrible for the environment (especially water pollution). Black and white film is worse than color, because if the lab is not VERY careful, metallic silver (very toxic) can go into the ground water and eventually contaminate our drinking water.
